NHL - Chicago Blackhawks @ Pittsburgh Penguins 3-2 OT - Tuesday, January 5, 2016

The Blackhawks surrendered a two-goal lead, but Artemi Panarin's overtime winner helped them recover to defeat the Penguins 3-2 at Consol Energy Center. Panarin sent a wrist shot into the upper-right corner with 1:13 remaining in overtime. It was his second of the game and his 13th goal in his first 41 NHL games.
After the game's first bit of back-and-forth action midway through the second period, Panarin opened the scoring off a 2-on-1 with Kane. Pittsburgh generated several chances before Kane earned possession and carried the puck up the near-wall with Panarin to his left facing Ben Lovejoy.

Lovejoy guessed correctly by attempting to cut off a pass to Panarin, but Kane's pass made it through anyway, setting up a one-time slap shot Panarin sent off goalie Marc-Andre Fleury's stick and into the net 8:47 into the second. Kane's assist was his NHL-leading 58th point.
Chicago extended its winning streak to four games to deny Pittsburgh a third consecutive win in the front end of a home-and-home series. They will play again at United Center on Wednesday. Blackhawks goalie Corey Crawford made 34 saves, including five in overtime. Quenneville did not confirm if Crawford will start again Wednesday.

Jonathan Toews pushed the lead to 2-0 with 1:14 remaining in the second. Brent Seabrook sent a slap shot into Pittsburgh's crease, which hit off Lovejoy, who was battling with Marian Hossa. Toews shoveled the loose puck past Fleury to extend his scoring streak to five games with his 14th goal of the season.
Sidney Crosby cut the deficit in half with a snap shot over Crawford's stick 5:54 into the third period. The goal was Crosby's fifth in four games and sixth in six games. It's his first four-game goal streak since a five-game stretch from Dec 20-28, 2010.
Moments later, Crosby nearly tied the game with a backhand shot he sent off the left post. Crosby did play a part in a tying goal later in the third when he won a faceoff back to Kris Letang, who one-timed a slap shot under Crawford's glove with 2:50 remaining in the third period. Letang, who earned a secondary assist on Crosby's goal, has scored eight points and three goals in his past three games. The Blackhawks weren't pleased with their effort in the third period, but were satisfied with the result.
Pittsburgh and Chicago played a scoreless first period that resulted in seven shots apiece. The Blackhawks earned the period's lone power play, but couldn't generate much before Fleury nearly helped Chicago take a 1-0 lead late when he centered the puck from behind his net with a group of players in front.

Several players from each team whacked at the puck until it was sent on net, where Letang made a diving save to keep the game scoreless. Pittsburgh is 7-0-5 in its past 12 home games against Chicago.

Pens Quotes
Sidney Crosby: "I think we did a lot of good things. Crawford made some saves. [We] hit some posts. We generated a lot of really good chances. Sometimes you get a lot of shots, but there's not a lot of chances. I thought we had a lot of grade-A chances throughout the game. … We probably deserved better."
Mike Sullivan: "What I loved about our group was just the resilience. We're down two goals. We go into the third period, we just keep playing. I thought we raised our intensity level when we had to and for me that's a great sign for this team."
Hawks Quotes
Joel Quenneville: "We're happy with his goals tonight. He's been great for our team, with what he brings with his energy, as well as skill. That line has been so effective for us, and him and [Patrick Kane] are together and share the puck at the appropriate moments."
Corey Crawford: "I don't think [the overtime] was too bad. They had some speed, but I think they were forcing things at the net and our guys did a good job, pretty much all night, with backside plays. We had a few open nets backside that our D took away. Took their stick away."
Duncan Keith: "I think every game is different and we just have to be confident in being able to make a play if it's there. I think we want to think defense and we want to check, and we want to make them make the mistakes in the third. At the end of the day, we got the win and that's what we wanted."
