Ottawa @ Washington 1-7

Alex Ovechkin scored twice, including the 500th goal of his NHL career, to help the Capitals defeat the Senators 7-1. Ovechkin scored his milestone goal on the power play at 16:19 of the second period for a 5-1 lead. Jason Chimera sent a cross-ice pass to Ovechkin, who beat Ottawa goalie Andrew Hammond with a wrist shot from the top of the left circle. It took Ovechkin 801 NHL games to score his 500th goal, the fifth fastest in League history (Wayne Gretzky, 575 games; Mario Lemieux, 605; Mike Bossy, 647; and Brett Hull, 693). After Mike Hoffman scored to pull Ottawa within one early in the second, Washington got three goals in 10:18 from Zach Sill, Dmitry Orlov and Ovechkin to take a 5-1 lead. The Capitals are missing two of their top defensemen, but that hasn't stopped them from winning four games in a row and eight of their past 10. Defenseman Brooks Orpik has missed the past 28 games because of a lower-body injury; top defenseman John Carlson (lower body) has been out the past eight. Williams opened the scoring at 8:07 of the first period. Andre Burakovsky sent a between-the-legs pass to Williams in the circle, and his shot trickled through Hammond's inside shoulder and blocker. Oshie's power-play goal at 10:58 increased Washington's lead to 2-0. On a tic-tac-toe play from Nicklas Backstrom and Evgeny Kuznetsov, Oshie sent a one-timer past Hammond for his 15th goal of the season and sixth on the power play. A turnover by Williams led to a breakaway for Hoffman, who scored his 20th goal at 3:32 of the second period. Hoffman beat Grubauer on his blocker side with a sharp-angled wrist shot to make it 2-1. Sill scored his first of the season at 6:01 of the second to give the Capitals a 3-1 lead. He took the initial shot, skated behind the net and put the rebound past Hammond. The goal was Sill's first since Jan. 21, 2015, ending a 35-game drought. The Capitals took a 4-1 lead when Orlov scored at 7:55. Orlov beat Hammond with a slap shot from the top of the left circle off a cross-ice pass from Nate Schmidt. Wilson scored at 8:48 of the third period to give the Capitals a 6-1 lead. It was his first goal in 17 games dating to Dec. 3.
Ovechkin scored his second goal of the game on a breakaway at 9:46 of the third.

Alex Ovechkin: "It is a special moment. It is nice to be in that category. It is really hard to score in this league right now, system-wise. ... If you get to 30 goals, 35 goals, you're lucky. Without my teammates' help, without the system, how we play, it is very hard to do."

Detroit @ Anaheim 2-1

Riley Sheahan broke a tie with less than four minutes remaining to help the Detroit Red Wings to a 2-1 win against the Anaheim Ducks at Honda Center. Sheahan thought he had scored in the first period, but the goal was disallowed when it was ruled the puck went off the top of the net. The game remained tied 1-1. Tatar scored 16 seconds into the game, but Perry tied it with a backhand shot that banked off the far post and past Mrazek. It was Perry's sixth goal over the past nine games.

Florida @ Edmonton 2-1

Jagr scored on the Panthers' first shot 3:22 into the game. Darnell Nurse bobbled the puck at the Florida blue line, allowing Jagr to race down the ice uncontested. Jagr had the puck bounce over his stick as he tried to make a move on Talbot, but it went in the net. The Oilers appeared to tie it 1-1 at 6:39 when Hall took a pass from Leon Draisaitl just inside the Panthers blue line, cut inside and sent a shot over Montoya's shoulder. But Florida coach Gerard Gallant challenged the goal, and video review showed Teddy Purcell crossed the blue line before Draisaitl brought the puck into the zone. Florida went up 2-0 on Huberdeau's sixth goal 25 seconds after Gallant's successful challenge. Huberdeau took a pass in front of the net from Aleksander Barkov and put a shot past Talbot. Letestu cut Florida's lead to 2-1 at 12:32 of the first when he took a pass from Lauri Korpikoski at the top of the crease and lifted a shot over Montoya. The Oilers had a four-minute power play after Huberdeau was assessed a double minor for high sticking at 17:17 of the second period. The Panthers limited the Oilers to seven shots in the third period. Edmonton had a number of chances to tie the game late but was unable to beat Montoya.
