New Jersey @ Montreal 1-2
Max Pacioretty scored on a power play with one minute left in the first period, Torrey Mitchell scored a shorthanded goal with 1:33 left in the second, and Montreal held on for a 2-1 win against New Jersey at Bell Centre. Pacioretty's 17th goal gave Montreal a 1-0 lead. New Jersey's John Hynes used his coach's challenge on the play, but the referee determined that Brendan Gallagher did not interfere with Schneider, who was unable to stop Pacioretty's shot between his legs. Paul Byron got his fifth shorthanded point when he set up Mitchell's goal. Byron drew the puck back and held on to it to get around Damon Severson's sliding attempt to cut off a pass. Mitchell drove to the net and redirected Byron's feed past Schneider to increase the lead to 2-0. Henrique deflected Andy Greene's point shot past Condon. Plekanec had a goal disallowed at 2:51 of the third. A video review upheld the referee's ruling that his stick made contact with the puck above the level of the crossbar. Montreal's David Desharnais put a backhand wide of the right post on a penalty shot at 16:31 of the second period. It was given after Jordin Tootoo directed a broken stick laying on the ice toward Desharnais while he was handling the puck along the boards.
Carolina @ Vancouver 2-3
Bo Horvat was denied 1-on-1 by Lack three times in the opening 20 minutes, but scored on a solo rush 7:15 into the third period and again on a power play with 1:06 seconds left to help the Canucks to a 3-2 victory. Horvat finally beat Lack and put the Canucks ahead by beating Victor Rask down the right wing. The 20-year-old center cut into the middle behind the defense and around Lack before tucking the puck in on the far side. Jordan Staal tied it for the Hurricanes with eight minutes left. But with Jaccob Slavin penalized for clearing a puck over the glass, the Canucks, who had one shot on four previous power plays, regained the lead. Horvat's one-timer from the bottom of the left faceoff circle of a pass from Sven Baertschi behind the net beat Lack high. Baertschi scored on a breakaway in his return after missing two games because of a sore neck to tie it 1-1, and Jacob Markstrom made 26 saves for the Canucks, who are 5-2-1 in their past eight games. The reunited second line with Baertschi, Horvat and Radim Vrbata accounted for all three Vancouver goals. After Liles opened the scoring on a shorthanded rush, Baertschi finally converted a breakaway high over Lack's left shoulder with 2:21 left in the second period.
Toronto @ Anaheim 4-0
The Ducks outshot the Maple Leafs 18-8 in the first period but Toronto took the lead when P.A. Parenteau scored at 8:54. Parenteau made it 2-0 7:38 into the second period, scoring off of a James van Riemsdyk rebound. It was Parenteau's second multi-goal game of the season. He has eight points in 10 games against Anaheim. Nazem Kadri made it 3-0 in the second when he took a cross-ice freed from Leo Komarov in the left circle and beat John Gibson at 12:35. Gibson left the game 41 seconds into the third period after a collision with Kadri.
Frederik Andersen relieved Gibson and gave up a goal to Brad Boyes at 2:47. Andersen made 11 saves. The Ducks had trouble with the Maple Leafs' mobile defensemen and, as a result, gave up too many odd-man rushes. When knocked off track, the Ducks failed to get back to playing a simple game and lost their composure in heated moments.
