NY Rangers @ Philadelphia 3-2 SO
The Rangers led 2-1 going into the third period but Wayne Simmonds' power-play goal at 10:33 tied the game. It put the Rangers in a situation similar to Thursday, when they led the Islanders 1-0 after two periods but lost 3-1.
Zuccarello, the Rangers' first shooter, put them ahead in the shootout with a marvelous deke that got Steve Mason down on the ice, and then he dragged the puck around and tucked a forehand past Mason's extended glove. Lundqvist cemented the win when he stopped Voracek, the Flyers' third shooter. The Flyers started well with Schenn's goal at 3:58 of the first period capping a nice passing play. Miller tied it with a power-play goal at 16:08 of the first, and then Kreider got a step on Evgeny Medvedev and tipped a Rick Nash centering pass past Mason at 4:49 of the second.
New Jersey @ Phoenix 2-0
Reid Boucher, recalled Friday from Albany of the American Hockey League, scored his first goal of the season and fourth in his NHL career 3:52 into the game. Kyle Palmieri added his team-leading 18th goal 18 seconds into the third period for injury-plagued New Jersey. The Devils, who came into the game averaging 2.16 goals per game and had scored six in the past six games, got off to a fast start. Oliver Ekman-Larsson was knocked off the puck at the blueline and Lee Stempniak and Boucher broke in 2-on-1. Stempniak gave Boucher time to pick a spot and he beat Lindback to the blocker side from the high slot. The Devils gave Schneider some breathing room on the first shift of the third period. Joseph Blandisi poked the puck from behind the net to the front and Palmieri banked the puck off Lindback's skate and in at 18 seconds.
Ottawa @ Los Angeles 5-3
Mika Zibanejad scored on the power play with 6:50 remaining and the Senators rallied from a two-goal deficit with four goals in the third period for a 5-3 win.
Zibanejad's game-winner capped a comeback from down 3-1 early in the third period. He took a pass from Bobby Ryan on the left side and scored on a wrist shot during a double-minor penalty to Nick Shore for high sticking. The Senators won for the third time in 14 road games after they were outscored 11-2 in the first two games of a five-game trip. Los Angeles led 3-1 on Tyler Toffoli's goal 3:05 into the third before Ottawa rallied with goals by Ryan and Jean-Gabrie Pageau in 26 seconds to tie the game, 3-3. Toffoli tapped in Milan Lucic's pass from the corner to finish a rush for his Kings-leading 21st goal. Ryan put Zibanejad's cross-ice pass into an open net at 8:08. Pageau whacked at the puck on the stick of Jake Muzzin and it shot past goalie Jonathan Quick at 8:34 to tie the game 3-3. Jeff Carter scored in the first period, and Vincent Lecavalier scored his first goal with the Kings when he grabbed a loose puck on the power play and lifted a shot at 7:48 of the second for a 2-0 lead. Christian Ehrhoff made a blind pass across the slot and it slid over to Lecavalier, who was traded to the Kings by the Philadelphia Flyers on Jan. 6. Ottawa pulled to 2-1 in the second on Alex Chiasson's first goal in 26 games. The Kings couldn't control a long stretch pass, and Chiasson tapped in Curtis Lazar's rebound at 11:37. Chiasson was scratched the previous four games. Mark Borowiecki scored an empty-net goal to make it 5-3 with 14 seconds remaining. Anderson stopped Toffoli on a penalty shot attempt late in the second period after Toffoli was bear hugged by Erik Karlsson on a breakaway.
Toronto @ Boston 2-3
Brad Marchand scored on a one-timer from near the left half wall with 47 seconds remaining, and linemate Patrice Bergeron scored twice to help the Bruins defeat the Maple Leafs. Marchand intercepted Martin Marincin's pass up the left wall and beat goaltender Jonathan Bernier, who was late getting back to the crease. Marchand beat Bernier with a backhand at 7:23 of the third period, but Toronto coach Mike Babcock challenged whether the Bruins entered the zone offside. The video review overturned the goal based on Marchand entering the zone ahead of the puck. It took the Bruins 45 seconds to score on the first shot of the game on a Bergeron breakaway. Krug caught Toronto in a line change with a pass from the Boston goal line to Bergeron at the Maple Leafs blue line and Bergeron beat Bernier with a backhand for a 1-0 lead.
The Maple Leafs tied it 1-1 at 4:31 after a giveaway by Joe Morrow. Dion Phaneuf intercepted the pass up the wall and shoveled the puck ahead to Nazem Kadri. Leo Komarov tipped Kadri's shot onto Rask and Komarov flipped in the rebound. Bergeron scored his second goal 39 seconds into the second period. Zdeno Chara took a wrist shot from the left point and Bergeron tipped it off the crossbar and in from between the circles. Bergeron has four two-goal games this season. Toronto tied it 2-2 with 2:44 left in the second. Tyler Bozak stripped the puck from Chara in the corner and made a cross-ice pass to Shawn Matthias, who beat Rask high to the stick side from the left hash mark.
Washington @ Buffalo 1-4
Cody Franson scored a power-play goal against Grubauer at 15:37 of the second period. Varone, a center who was recalled from Rochester of the AHL in the morning to replace injured Zemgus Girgensons, scored his first NHL goal of the season and the fifth of his career when he slammed home the rebound of a Rasmus Ristolainen slap shot from the right point at 10:30 of the first period.
Schaller made it 2-0 with a shorthanded goal at 16:00. With Jack Eichel serving a tripping penalty, Schaller blocked a shot by Dmitry Orlov at the Buffalo blue line, raced in on a breakaway and beat Holtby high to the stick side. Kane gave Buffalo a three-goal lead and ended Holtby's night when he took a 30-foot wrist shot that the goaltender got a piece of but couldn't prevent from trickling over the goal line. Holtby allowed three goals on 16 shots. Johnson's best save of the game came at 11:22 of the second period when he robbed Ovechkin on a point-blank shot from the slot, drawing a standing ovation from the sellout crowd of 19,070. Franson made it 4-0 when he took a slap shot from the right boards that beat Grubauer on the short side. It was Franson's fourth goal of the season. Zach Bogosian drew an assist on the goal, the 100th of his NHL career.
Johansson got Washington on the board when he took a pass from Jason Chimera while standing alone in front of the net and beat Johnson for his 11th goal of the season. The game marked the return to the NHL for center Mike Richards, who signed with the Capitals on Jan. 6 after having his contract terminated by the Los Angeles Kings last summer.
Calgary @ Edmonton 1-2 SO
Teddy Purcell scored the only goal in the shootout to give the Oilers a 2-1 win.
Purcell started the third round of the tiebreaker with a wrist shot that beat Jonas Hiller. Talbot ended the game by getting his pad on a backhand shot by rookie Sam Bennett, who scored Calgary's only goal. Talbot was the main reason the Oilers were down only 1-0 after the first period. Calgary outshot Edmonton 14-8 in the period and had a number of excellent scoring opportunities, but Talbot was beaten only by Bennett, who scored his 11th of the season at 10:41. Fayne tied the game at 10:37 of the third when his point shot went through traffic and over Hiller's shoulder. Taylor Hall won a faceoff back to the veteran defenseman, who scored his first goal since Feb. 14, 2015. In overtime, Darnell Nurse was assessed a holding penalty, giving the Flames a power play with 3:02 left. Johnny Gaudreau had a couple of chances to end the game but was stopped by Talbot.
